HOW IT IS MADE AND WHICH MATERIALS ARE USED?

Waterproofing in buildings is done in order to prevent the water from entering the building shell at whatever intensity, in whatever state and from where it comes from, and thus damaging the building elements. Basically, waterproofing is divided into two as structural and surface waterproofing.

1- Structural waterproofing

While providing the opportunity to prevent water from entering the concrete by means of powder and liquid materials generally added to the cement, it also reduces the voids in the concrete.

Joint materials applied to the outer surface: Polyethylene or hypalon water retaining tapes are used to prevent water from entering the expansion or construction joints in the concrete. They work with the principle of stopping the water or extending the way it travels in the concrete.

Joint materials applied to the concrete: Water retaining tapes or water-expanding mastic and profiles are used to prevent the external water from passing through the expansion or construction joints in the concrete. They work with the principle of stopping the water or extending the way it travels in the concrete.

Joint materials applied to the inner surface: Hypalon water retaining tapes are used to prevent the internal water from passing through the expansion or construction joints in the concrete. They work on the principle of stopping the water (Figure 2).

2- Surface waterproofing

It is the whole process of creating a water impermeable layer between the external environment where water can be found and the building shell. For this purpose, waterproof special waterproofing covers are used.

Waterproofing is done by applying waterproofing covers towards the areas where water can enter the buildings. It should be preferred to make waterproofing applications from the side where the water comes from, that is, from the outside of the building.

3-Waterproofing Materials

Basically, waterproofing materials are called waterproofing materials. The materials used in waterproofing are collected under three separate titles according to their usage areas and properties.
